The Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Mathematical Medicine and Biology. In special cases a position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor may be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an outstanding research program that strengthens or complements the department’s existing activities in mathematical medicine and biology. Areas of current strength include mathematical oncology, computational physiology, systems and synthetic biology, mathematical neuroscience, and infectious-disease and epidemiological modelling. Relevant methodological strengths include dynamical systems, multiscale mechanistic modelling, scientific computing, and scientific machine learning. The department also supports experimental research through laboratory facilities in mathematical biology and mathematical medicine, including bacterial systems and cell-culture research, providing opportunities to integrate mathematical modelling with experimental studies. Candidates working broadly at the interface of mathematics, biology, and medicine are encouraged to apply, including those whose research engages with experimental, field, observational, clinical, or computational data. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and to the supervision and mentorship of graduate students.
Candidates interested in this position should have a PhD or equivalent in Applied Mathematics or a related field. The salary range for this position is $120,000-$160,000. The effective date of appointment is July 1, 2027. Interested individuals should apply using MathJobs (https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/list/29163). Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, research and teaching statements, teaching evaluation summaries (if available), up to three reprints/preprints, and a brief statement describing their approach to fostering an equitable and inclusive environment that supports a diverse academic community. In addition, applicants should arrange to have at least three reference letters submitted on their behalf.
The University values the diverse and intersectional identities of its students, faculty, and staff.
