    Job Summary:
    The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Cleveland State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor. The starting date of the appointment is August 17, 2026.

    We seek candidates with a strong research program in mathematics whose scholarship complements and supports existing areas of departmental strength. The department is particularly interested in candidates whose research has the potential for interdisciplinary engagement, including connections to computational science, but areas of specialization are open. Successful candidates are expected to maintain an active research program, seek external funding appropriate to their field and rank, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics, mentor students, and participate in department, college, and university service.

    The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers B.S., B.A., and M.S. degrees in Mathematics, and an M.S. in Statistics and Analytics.     Minimum Qualifications:

    • Ph.D. in mathematics or applied mathematics. Appropriate terminal degree completed by July 1, 2026. Persons who are ABD will be hired at the rank of Instructor;
    • Active research program in mathematics;
    • Strong communication skills.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • A strong research program that complements or overlaps with the Department’s existing areas of strength and that shows potential for interdisciplinary or collaborative activity, including possible engagement with computational or data-driven approaches;
    • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring students;
    • The ability to involve undergraduate and graduate students in research;
    • Experience with innovative instructional methods or curriculum development are desirable;
    • A record of applying for external funding, preferably funded. For those who have not yet had the chance to apply for external funding, a concrete plan for future grant applications.
