Purpose of the position: The School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis, and the Institute of Computational Comparative Medicine at Kansas State University seek applications for students in the area of data science. We are looking for student researchers whose interests are in data science in biomedical data, and researchers with a methodological and application focus.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience: Applicants must be outstanding, intellectually curious researchers at an early stage of their scholarly career. Applicants should have demonstrated a capacity for independent work and will be expected to engage with researchers and faculty and
participate in activities convened by our Initiative. The successful candidate will have earned a degree in a field such as data science, biomedical sciences, statistics and mathematics, computer science, or
engineering with evidence in terms of research experience in at least one of the following core areas:
Research design and data analysis in applied statistics and mathematics
Data engineering, storage, and retrieval
Visualizing and communicating data
Applied machine learning
Experiments and causal inference
Large-scale data mining and analysis
Applied regression and time series analysis
Self-motivation, attention to detail, persistence, diligence, and the
ability to work in a distributed team are essential attributes for the
individual undertaking this position.
