We encourage everyone to join the Society for Mathematical Biology. Applications received after October 15 will be presumed to start January 1 of the following year, unless you request to have it begin with the current year (in which case you will receive all of the current year's issues of the Bulletin of Mathematical Biology). Students, please see the information pertaining to student memberships below.
One attractive feature of SMB is that your membership (a well-spent $50 per year for a full member, a bargain at $25 per year for a student member) comes with full electronic access to the Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, a journal devoted to research at the interface of theoretical and experimental biology. Phillip Maini is the Editor. To receive a hard copy of the journal for an additional $25, please check the appropriate box when applying for or renewing your SMB membership.
Membership entitles you to our newsletter and to reduced rates of subscription in other popular journals. Members also receive a 30% discount on all Springer books. Discounts can be automatically accessed by clicking here.
SMB members receive a discount on the Annual Meeting registration fee. They may also apply for support for travel to SMB annual meetings or other professional meetings, or for organizing local meetings.
Full members can vote in society elections and hold office in the society. Student members do not have voting rights, but they are invited to participate in all other society activities and to help shape the future of mathematical biology both here and in the broad international community. SMB members may also participate in the Mentoring Program.
You can use this renewal process to pay on-line using a credit card, or you can opt to send a check by mail. We encourage you to use the on-line process either way as it will allow you to fill in your address accurately. Please note, all students must use the paper application (see below).
New Members: Please select the "Join the Society for the very first time" option on the first screen, and then follow the instructions to choose your username and password. These will be saved upon completion of your membership application.
Renewals: If you are renewing your SMB membership, you are in the database and can use the "Renew your membership with the Society" option. Your username is the e-mail address you provided on your membership application last year. If you have forgotten your password, simply fill in your email in the "Forgot your login details" section and push "Send reset details". This will send you an automatically generated email with a link to login. If you did not provide an email, have changed email since, or can’t remember what email address you used, you can either just opt to sign up as a new member or contact us (hgaff@odu.edu) for other options.
If you have troubles, one quick trick to try is to clear your internet browser cache if you get an error and then try again. Please let us know if you have any troubles by sending an email to hgaff@odu.edu or webmaster@smb.org with all the details you can provide such as OS, browser, error, etc.
If you prefer the paper version, please print the following PDF and mail or fax to the address on the form.
Students, your application must be mailed
or faxed with the signature of your supervisor or a faculty
member from your institution. The supervisor or faculty
member does not need to be an SMB member.
New
student memberships are free if endorsed by an existing SMB
member. Please enclose a letter of endorsement with your application. Student membership renewals are not free.
Also note that students are eligible for travel awards to attend our
annual meeting. Please see our Annual Meeting
page for more information.
Questions about membership or subscription fulfillment should be sent to: membership@smb.org.
